The summer of 2017 has been awash with varying colourways of the Air Max 97. Nike have treated fans to some innovative new designs, such as their much anticipated collaboration with Skepta, as well as some less innovative models such as the “Triple Black” model that stormed sails recently. On top of this, Nike have provided an overwhelming supply of iterations of the fan favourite, constant sell out, silhouette, as they celebrate that coveted model in its 20th year.
Because of Nike’s reliance on this model over the summer, the 97 has become perhaps their signature shoe of 2017’s hotter months. However now with the weather turning and the temperature dropping, it is time to usher in the winter tones, which Nike seem intent on doing with their latest AM 97 colourway entitled: “Deep Pewter”.
Featuring a mix of grey, green and beige the colourway is certainly a contrast to the more vibrant displays that have embodied this summer. The eye catching flashiness of a “Metallic Gold” or “Metallic Bronze” iteration is gone, while the lighter shades of the ultra hyped “Silver Bullet” colourway is nowhere to be seen. Instead we have a mix of neutral tones, befitting the season as the “Deep Pewter” is scheduled to release this autumn.
Of course the signature AM 97 formula is still on show. The comfort-inclined cushioning system remains, as does the layered upper design, while a white midsole contrasts nicely with the otherwise more understated tones of the silhouette. All of which make this – like most AM 97 models – a likely sell out.
With the release of the “Deep Pewter” comes the signal that it is time for the other half of your wardrobe to make a return. Swap jersey shorts for jeans, swap tees for hoodies; and wrap up warm. Winter is coming.
